Good questions

Questions, answered.

How much does dog training cost around Bristol?

General estimates run from about £40 to £80 for a private lesson, £120 to £250 for a puppy course and £300 to £800 for an obedience programme. Behaviour plans are about £250 to £700, and board and train stays £1,200 to £2,000 or more.

Can I use my own street for lessons?

Often yes. Many problems only appear on your own pavement or at your own door, so ask whether a trainer will meet you there.

Are dogs allowed on Bristol-area beaches?

Many seaside beaches have seasonal dog restrictions in summer, so check the signs and your council's website before you go.

Is the Severn estuary safe for dogs?

The tidal range is very large and the mud can be deep, so keep dogs away from soft mud and watch the tide times.

Can this site pair me with a trainer?

Not at present. There is no form and requests are closed.

Which methods should I look for?

Reward-based teaching that increases difficulty bit by bit. Be wary of fear, pain or promised results.

Do I need to microchip my dog?

Yes. Dogs in England must be microchipped and registered to a current keeper.

Who operates this guide?
